The Huron softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over FGR with two high-scoring wins. Huron dominated the first game 22-5 with a strong offensive performance from start to finish. In game two, the River Rats kept the momentum going and battled through a competitive matchup to secure an 18-13 victory. With consistent hitting and energy throughout both games, Huron completed an impressive night at the plate.

Huron Rowing Association: Spring Kick-Off

Huron Rowing had an impressive performance at the Midwest Championship at Kensington last weekend, competing against 59 teams from seven states over two days of racing. After entering 13 preliminary races on Saturday, Huron advanced 11 boats to the finals on Sunday. The women’s V4+ crew earned a silver medal with a second-place finish, while the men’s Jr4 placed fourth, finishing just one second away from the podium. Following the strong weekend, the women’s team has qualified for Nationals over Memorial Day weekend, and the men are still in contention for an at-large bid. Go Rats!

Q: Who or what inspired you to start coaching?My dad was a coach, and watching the connection he made with his players had an impact on me as a young person. Q: Why did you choose to coach tennis specifically?I was a journalism major, and Ferris State only had a two-year program. So it was either transfer somewhere else or do something else. I had caught the tennis bug at the time, and Ferris offered a “Professional Tennis Management” degree. Deadline pressure had me burned out. Tennis had been my escape, so to speak, and having a few friends in the program made it a fairly easy decision. Ironically, my dad wasn’t super supportive of it at first. He came around. Q: How long have you been coaching tennis?I’ve been working as a teaching professional for about 38 years. The Huron Women’s Basketball team saw its district run come to an end on Wednesday, March 5, with a 45-23 loss to Saline. Despite the defeat, the season marked a milestone for the program as the team advanced past the first round of districts for the first time.

Senior Max Pinsky, student section leader, has organized a special event for Huron men's varsity basketball game on Friday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. The first 30 students to arrive to the student section will be awarded with free t-shirts. The special occasion is for mental health awareness in partnership with the Myles Jeffrey Roberts Foundation.

Ranking on the Mat: Abufarha finishes strong

Huron’s wrestling team turned in a solid performance at the individual tournament hosted at Ypsilanti High School on Dec. 6, highlighted by a standout run from sophomore Mohanad Abufarha, who secured second place in his weight class.Although the event focused on individual results, wrestlers also contributed points toward their team’s overall standing. Thanks to multiple strong finishes, Huron tied for 11th place out of what is believed to be 21 competing schools, a respectable position in a competitive field.Alongside Abufarha’s silver finish, teammates Willie Stevenson, Abdalla, and Omar each earned 5th place, adding important points to Huron’s team score. On Monday, Dec. 8 Varsity Women’s Basketball went to Royal Oak for an away game. They were locking in tight and pushing through a tough start. The River Rats earned their first win of the season on the road. Earlier in the season, they struggled in their early games. At the beginning, it was rough. They lost many matches. This team put in the work, battled through every challenge, and grew together every step of the way. “I was excited because I know we’ve been working really good," Senior Arie Hesterly said.Their hard work showed during their hardest games. It is seeing that determination, dedication, and how the players put in all summer long.
